This is a hidden gem !! It is a small local restaurant with really authentic Chinese food!! Highly recommend the clay pot rice, it is very rich in flavor with crispy at bottom !! The chicken dish and beef pot is also great. It is not a fancy restaurant but the entire restaurant makes you feel at home, stuff is friendly and helpful.

We came here on a Tuesday night, this place was packed and we waited about almost an hour. Their portion is huge compared to other Cantonese restaurants, and everything we ordered was delicious!! So many things from the menu to choose from, but we were only able to try 5 dishes. We will definitely be back to try more!

- salt and pepper chicken wings - standard and crispy. Comes on bed of green cabbage - dried scallop and egg white fried rice - pleasantly simple and bright flavor with cilantro and green onion. Very little and small dried scallop unfortunately - mapo tofu - it was fine, but the tofu cubes were too large - spicy eggplant - too much sauce for me. Comes with wood ear mushroom. - garlic Chinese broccoli - looked yellow when i ordered to go. Garlic flavor was light - pork and preserved egg rice porridge - so good. Rice is right thickness, pork is tender, and large cuts of egg. Wish there was more egg than pork. lunch rice plates come with two generous scoops of white rice. I would probably order the rice porridge, garlic pea shoot, and another fried rice.

Blue Sky Cafe, after much anticipation due to temporary vacation closing, you did not disappoint. Cute neighborhood restaurant. Favorite of locals. Thankful our host made reservations because within 10 minutes of arriving, every single table was filled up! And the takeout orders kept piling up, waiting for their owner(s) to claim them. All the food delicious, a few dishes that stood out for me included: Golden Pompano fried and served with a soy based sauce - 5/5 (Salted) egg yolk pumpkin with shrimp - 5/5 Clay pot rice with lup cheong and pork belly served with a lovely lite sauce and perfectly crisped on the bottom and sides - 6/5 ! Also enjoyed stirfried green beans, capital porkchops, Hainan chicken, noodles. Solid 4.5 out of 5 star overall rating rounded up to 5. And if we didn't just experience the delicious food served, may have wondered why... by the time we were finished there were more people waiting outside the restaurant to get in as there were inside! Thank you Mr and Mrs L.K. for your gracious and generous hospitality and for introducing me to this wonderful neighborhood gem.

We had such an enjoyable meal here last year, we decided to stop by for some lunch. We arrived before opening time and were seated right away. We got: Assorted Seafood Chow Mein Hong Kong Style - 5 - Delicious. Equally good even cold the next morning for breakfast! Scrambled Egg with Bitter Melon - 4 - The Egg was good but I prefer mine a bit under cooked. The Bitter Melon may have been soaked in water a bit too long as it wasn't as bitter as I like. It was cooked well, in the sense that it still had just a bit of crunch. Chicken, Shiitake Mushroom and Chinese Sausage Rice Clay Pot - 5 - Absolutely delicious! From the pour over sweetened soy sauce, the three main ingredients and the crispy bits of rice on the bottom, there was nothing not to love in this dish. We were fortunate to pick this particular date to dine as they were about to close for a one-month vacation. I hope they have a great visit and get plenty of rest so we can return and indulge again!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this spot while we were hunting for a restaurant with Hong Kong-style breakfast and milk tea. Well, we go the milk tea but not quite the breakfast lol. But nonetheless, the food from this spot is delicious! I must admit, the first time we came here I was surprised by the crowd of people that this restaurant was able to draw in. Located in Belmont, it's a small restaurant and pretty packed together. Belmont is a bit of a drive but I quickly found that it was worth it. I would recommend coming early even if they open at 11 because it can be a bit of a wait. Our first time here, we waited for over an hour and the dish we wanted was sold out. We intended to come for light breakfast but having waited well into lunch time, we ended up ordering the salt and pepper pork and the beef chow fun with gravy. We originally wanted the black pepper beef spagehtti but they were sold out so opted for beef chow fun with gravy which ended up being pretty good! It had plenty of wok hay and they didn't skimp on any of the ingredients. The salt and pepper pork chop was super crispy and again, they did not skimp! Definitely want to try the salt and pepper chicken wings or fish, especially since the pork chop was so good. The milk tea was pretty velvety and had plenty of tea flavor, just a little sweet but that can easily be fixed by asking for less condensed milk. The second time we came we ordered the Chinese sausage clay pot, the black pepper beef spaghetti, milk tea and the lemon iced tea. This time we came earlier and only waited 30-45 mins tops. I can understand why they have such long wait times now. The claypot dishes are what holds them back as it takes at least 30 mins to cook and almost every table orders one. Claypots are not my go-tos but I must say it was pretty damn good and enjoyed the rice crisps at the bottom. The black pepper beef spaghetti is what you'd expect at any HK restaurant. Again, good wok hay, tons of black pepper flavors. The service staff & the owner are very nice & friendly. He kept track of which customers were still waiting & constantly reassured us that a table would be ready for us soon. Overall, Blue Sky is a solid restaurant with huge portions for it's price point/ Although it's quite a drive for me, this is a spot that I see ourselves visiting again and again. And I'd like to come for dinner one day and see what other delicious dishes there are!

Wow, some of the best clay pot rice I've had in the Bay is right here. Amazing Chinese food, but long lines can sometimes make it a bit of a challenge to get in. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon just around lunch time and were hit with an hour and a half of waiting. All it did was make the already tasty food somehow tastier. The string beans were savory and perfectly cooked, with fried tofu that had a perfect texture and an amazingly juicy taste. The salt and pepper pork chop was also crispy and tender and we finished them so quickly. The pork and preserved egg porridge had that authentic mouth feel and tasty taste to it (I'm out of synonyms for savory and tasty, just imagine that perfect Chinese food taste). The Chinese donuts took a while to come out and were a bit more fried than I'd expected, but they tasted amazing when dipped in the porridge anyway. The clay pot rices themselves were just as good as the ones you can find in China. We tried the chicken and mushroom as well as the yellow eel (a delicacy!), and both were so delicious. You can let the rice crisp as long as you want to get that perfect texture, and the sauce you pour over the chicken and mushrooms makes each bite not dry at all! The bites of yellow eel are mixed in already, and finding each bit is a treasure in itself. They did have to take a little longer to make the yellow eel rice, but came out and apologized, giving us a heads up about the delay. I'll come back when it opens, and I can't wait to stuff myself full.

We got here at 6 pm sharp and we didn't get a table until 7 pm! Near the door is a list to put your name down. There were 5 parties ahead of us. But the restaurant only has 9 tables and 2 were for large parties. When you sit down, you order by scanning a QR code. Since we had an hour, we knew what we wanted to order by the time we sat down. Honestly, midway while waiting, we weren't sure to stick around long enough to get our table. This is the longest we've waited for a table at a restaurant! Usually, we'd leave if it's over 20 minutes. CURRY BEEF STEW NOODLE FUN WITH GRAVY: Typical yellow curry that you'd see at a Chinese restaurant. They give a lot of wide rice noodles and veggies. Not a lot of beef stew, but it was flavorful curry sauce. We were expecting the noodles to be stir fried to have that wok flavor, but it wasn't. 4/5 BUDDHA DELIGHT: We like eating vegetables and this dish is usually one you'll eat during the lunar new year. This dish caught our eye as a table was chowing down on it, so we decided to try it as well. It was pretty good and filled with plenty of vegetables and thin clear noodles. Exactly what we expected. 5/5 PUMPKIN WITH SALTED EGG: While waiting, we saw a few tables order this too. It must be a popular dish! It was lightly crispy with the sweetness of the pumpkin and saltiness of the salted egg yolk. My bf and I enjoyed this dish! 5/5 They don't skimp and are generous, so that's why lots of people wait for a table. And there are people who call in their order as well to pick up their food. That probably extends the wait time on getting a table. Great food, but would I wait that long again? If I was starving, probably not. Being in Belmont, I can understand why people wait. If you come before 4:30, maybe you'll have a shot at being first. In SF, you've got other choices and restaurants have competition. It's less likely people would wait over a hour for a table. But if you're in the area, craving solid Chinese food, this would be a great choice. Just know there's a wait.
